VOTER INFORMATION | October 9, 2026
By Steven Bullcoming Haworth | Truth in Focus
NORTHERN CHEYENNE RESERVATION, Montana — Photographs of district election notices posted publicly and supplied to Truth in Focus identify nine named candidates for five Northern Cheyenne Tribal Council seats in the November 3, 2026 general election. The documents bear the name and signature of Tribal Secretary Alicia Cano and are dated September 21, 2026.
The notices cover Ashland, Busby and Lame Deer. Each states that no primary election will be held in that district and that write-in voting will be permitted in the November 3 general election.
Candidates named in the photographed notices
Ashland District — One open seat
Donna Fisher and Eugene Little Coyote are listed as candidates.
Busby District — One open seat
Torrey Davie is the sole candidate named.
Lame Deer District — Three open seats
Six candidates are listed: Alan Joe Blackwolf, Dana Eaglefeathers, Sven Limpy, Melissa Lonebear, Henry Speelman and Corey Spottedelk.
In total: Five open Council seats and nine named candidates across these three notices. These are names printed on the photographed notices, not a guarantee that no later corrections, rulings or changes have occurred. Voters should check current notices and election officials for updates.
Why no primary is listed
The notices cite Section 8(d) of the Revised Tribal Election Ordinance, which they describe as not requiring a primary when the number of qualifying candidates does not exceed twice the open seats in a district. On the photographed notices, Ashland lists two candidates for one seat, Busby one for one seat, and Lame Deer six for three seats. Each notice explicitly permits write-in voting in the general election.
What voters still need to know
The photographs provide names missing from earlier reporting. They do not independently establish whether notices were posted in every required location or later amended.
Section 9(b) of the Northern Cheyenne Election Ordinance requires candidate-list notices at three public places in each reservation district at least 21 days before the election.
For November 3, that point is October 13. Truth in Focus is seeking confirmation of posting dates and locations.
Absentee voting questions
Section 15 of the ordinance provides absentee voting procedures for eligible voters who will be away from the reservation on election day, are ill, or cannot vote in person because of a physical disability.
The ordinance includes a notarized written application to the Tribal Secretary, deadlines and procedures for mailing ballots.
These notices do not establish how eligible voters away from home, including those in correctional facilities, can complete those steps in practice. Voters should confirm current forms, instructions and deadlines directly with election officials.
The notices also do not independently confirm polling hours, locations or detailed instructions for write-in ballots. The newsroom will continue verifying official records.
Truth in Focus previously reported on the November 3 election and the court-related dispute over election administration. The candidate notices should be read as election-office source documents, not as a new ruling by any court or an endorsement of any candidate.
