Eastern Montana Morning Weather — October 27, 2026: Showers, Gusty Winds and a Drier Wednesday

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2026 | EARLY MORNING WEATHER

Eastern Montana forecast, with attention to Ashland, Lame Deer, Colstrip, Broadus, Miles City and Billings.

Showers first, then wind

A quick-moving Pacific weather system is bringing periods of rain across south-central and southeastern Montana this morning. Showers will progress eastward and gradually diminish during the day. Clouds and locally poor visibility may linger early, and National Weather Service forecasters put the chance of localized overnight-to-morning fog in far southeastern Montana at about 40 percent.

West winds are the main concern after the showers move through. Gusts of roughly 20 to 40 miles per hour are possible across much of the region on Tuesday, with the strongest winds — potentially 40 to 50 miles per hour — favored along the western foothills and in other exposed terrain. Wind exposure will vary by location; these are regional estimates, not an observed gust for any one community.

Community outlook

Ashland and Lame Deer: Expect a mostly cloudy, changeable day, with a chance of passing showers, afternoon breezes and temperatures generally in the 50s, possibly nearing 60 in some nearby lower-elevation locations. Exposed sections of U.S. Highway 212 and the Lame Deer Divide may be breezy; check current conditions rather than assuming wet or icy roads.

Colstrip, Broadus and Miles City: A similar pattern of lingering clouds or scattered rain early, followed by gusty west winds and afternoon temperatures mainly in the 50s. Parts of far southeastern Montana may see early fog, reducing visibility locally.

Billings and the Yellowstone Valley: Early Tuesday temperatures were around 40 degrees with rain in the Billings area. Skies should be mostly cloudy with occasional showers, winds picking up and an afternoon high near 60 degrees. The timing and intensity of showers will vary during the day.

The next several days

Wednesday: Mainly dry across lower elevations, with seasonable daytime highs mostly in the 50s and a few locations around 60. Thursday and Friday: Generally dry, with occasional breezes and daytime temperatures mostly in the upper 40s to 50s. The forecast points toward another opportunity for rain and mountain snow late in the weekend or early next week; details remain subject to change.

Travel and weather-safety notes

Before driving U.S. 212, U.S. 12 or other rural highways, look up live road conditions, especially where fog, rain or strong crosswinds could reduce visibility or affect high-profile vehicles. The weather report is not a road-closure announcement. Mountain travelers should also be alert to snow at higher elevations and consult current advisories.
